Styx fans have a tough decision on Friday.

They can watch the former lead singer of the progressive rock band perform his hits in Rancho Cucamonga or catch the rest of the band playing the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona.

Dennis DeYoung, the lead singer of Styx during three stints (from 1970-1984, 1990-1992 and 1995-1999) is set to play the intimate Lewis Family Playhouse. His performance is part of an advertised “Dennis DeYoung And The Music Of Styx” gig at the 560-seat venue.

DeYoung’s former band, however, is slated to perform more than 20 miles away at the fair with singer Lawrence Gowan, a Scotland-born and Canadian-raised rocker who joined the group in 1999. Styx (sans DeYoung) is scheduled to perform at the L.A. County Fair at its 9,000-seat venue as part of the fair’s End of Summer Concert Series.

Both DeYoung and Gowan said they did not know the two acts were performing on the same night, but this isn’t the first time the two have performed in the same area.
